Thank you for the great work you are doing and your interest in the Better Day Alliance
Foundation. In order to be eligible for a BDAF donation your request and organization must meet
certain basic criteria. Once you have established your eligibility, we have some helpful tips to give
some insight into how the board makes its final decision regarding which projects to fund. Sadly,
the need is always greater then our available resources and often the decision comes down to
how well a request has been presented.
The organization must be a registered charity.
- Ontario law does not allow our foundation to make a donation
to organizations that are not registered charities. Sadly, this
excludes individuals and families unless it is through a
registered charity.
The project must be in line with our mission.
- To create positive experiences that go beyond necessity and
bring unexpected delight to people facing a variety of
challenges. For example: holiday parties, recreational
supplies, tickets to events, hiring magicians, clowns etc for
special days, or funds for a special outing. These are just a few
examples.
Application deadlines are January 1st, and June 1st.
- Shortly after these dates the board meets and discusses which
applications to approve. It is important to get your application
in before the deadline and that the funds are to be used after it.
The organization must be in the Greater Toronto Area and the project
must be for the benefit of people in the GTA.
- Below is a map of the boundaries of the Greater Toronto Area.

Don't ask for the maximum if you can do it for less!
- The BDAF wants to help as many people as possible and priority
is given to organizations that look like they will stretch the
money they are requesting the furthest!
Be creative!
- Request funds for what you think the people who use your
services would really enjoy! Don't be afraid if it sounds silly or
strange. If you know it will bring a better day to your clients,
patients, participants etc...then go for it!
Be as specific as possible.
- Give dates whenever possible and a breakdown of how the
money would be spent.
Be clear about how the project will help the people you work with.
- About 10% of eligible requests can be approved. Often the
deciding factor is the impacts that the project you are requesting
funds for will have on the people it benefits.
If your organization is eligible but your request is denied, don't be
afraid to apply again in the future!
- Again, with only about 10% of eligible projects being approved
for funding it is important not to take it personally! It is an
agonizing decision for the board, and it often comes down to a
tough choice between two equal projects with only enough
funding for one of them.
