Luke's Place supports abused women and their children throughout the family law process and provides
them and the Durham community with specialized resources and information about family law and
woman abuse. Luke's Place is named in memory of Luke, a 3 ½ year old boy who, on his first
unsupervised access visit in August of 1997 in Durham Region, was brutally murdered by his father.
This unsupervised access was allowed by the court process despite pleas from the child's mother to
permit supervised access only. Watch this video for more information about Luke's Place: watch video
Luke's Place recognized the need for a safe place for mother's to drop off their kids while
they utilized the services. For this reason, Luke's Place has created a brand new children's
centre for kids ages 2-12.
The Better Day Alliance Foundation donated a huge pile of brand new, name brand, kids toys
to this endeavour!
Adam Wiseman, Executive Director of the
BDAF, poses with Tanya from Luke's Place
along with the donation. Tanya gave the
executive team from the BDAF an
inspirational tour of the organization and if
you click on this picture and look beside her
left hand you will see a small picture of
Luke; the young boy the centre was named
in memory of.
